As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services group (GMNS), the Network & Acquirer Solutions (NAS) team is at the core of American Express, uniquely positioned to support every business unit and customer across the Enterprise. The American Express Network enables over $1.6 trillion in annual spend, serving our Issuers and Acquirers in more than 170 markets worldwide. We are driving a strategic, multi-year Enterprise Payments program to bring all payments together into a center of excellence to drive operational excellence for payment execution, enable innovative payment products, services, and capabilities to be built effectively and efficiently, support our BU strategies more closely, and deliver on our customers’ evolving payment needs.

 

The role of Senior Manager, Enterprise Payments Program Management is an exciting opportunity for a talented Program Manager to drive the modernization of payment capabilities, as part of the Multi-Rail program. You will lead and drive a large scale, multi-year initiative in support of a cutting-edge multi-rail payment service. This service will unify multiple payment types (e.g., card networks, ACH, wires, real time payments, etc.) under a single, scalable, secure, enterprise-wide platform. Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Payments Program Management, you will be responsible for coordinating cross-functional teams, managing business and technology stakeholders, and ensuring this critical initiative meets its objectives within scope, time, and budget.

 

How will you make an impact in this role?

 

Deliver multiple Projects or Programmes within Enterprise Payments that supports delivery of wider MultiRail – Business Solutions and Go to Market strategy.

Manage E2E Project Plan across multiple works streams.

Program execution and delivery: Oversee program milestones, timelines, and deliverables to ensure alignment with program strategy and objectives. Monitor and manage resolution of dependencies, gaps, risks & issues, and change requests. Drive coordination of activities across the various teams to ensure the end-to-end solution is stitched together appropriately to meet the business needs.

Communicate program progress, updates, risks, escalations, and outcomes to program leadership. Drive communication across the various stakeholder teams to ensure integrity of the end-to-end solution.

Performance oversight: Manage the program’s budget to optimize resources, opex budget, and technology capacity across the dependent teams. Manage the program’s objectives and key results (OKRs) and the tracking and reporting of the program metrics.

Lead weekly Programme/Project calls to capture actions that drive clear ownership, decision making, risk management, and accountability.

Prepare various committee reporting and weekly communications.

Minimum Qualifications

 

A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field. An MBA can be advantageous.

Proven experience in Programme or Project Management.

Significant experience working with Financial Services, ideally within Fintech, Payment’s processor, or Credit Card environment as a Programme or Project Manager, or similar role.

Experience managing successful business and technology change projects (£multi-million) in Payments within Financial Services with a proven ability to plan, execute, and monitor complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.

Proven record of leading major technology/business programmes and delivering successful outcomes across a range of businesses.

Experience shaping business ideas and initiatives into detailed project plans for multi-workstream delivery to achieve business outcomes.

Experience of planning and controlling project delivery.

Experienced at leading people through structural, procedural, and cultural change, gaining commitment to new ways of working.

Strong stakeholder management – Ability to build working relationships with key business stakeholders and business SMEs.

Lead the governance structure that drives clear ownership, decision making, and risk management.

Lead updates of the program/projects you own across multiple stakeholders within the business.

Work with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of product development with other workstreams, including payments operations, legal, and marketing.

Impeccable leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and unite teams towards shared goals.

Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a knack for identifying and solving complex challenges across cross-functional initiatives.

Proven ability to build, maintain, and leverage strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry partners and regulators.

Expertise in managing the entire product development lifecycle, from ideation to launch.

Ability to effectively collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other cross-functional teams to bring innovative solutions to life.

Demonstrable evidence of programme delivery for multiple industries and businesses.
